Packing

Disclaimer: I am not telling you what to pack, or what to buy… I am simply informing you on what I have found to be easiest for riders and SAG support over the years.

When I pack for RAGBRAI, I prepare 7 separate outfits. While I have the outfits out, I lay out how much money I want to use each day while riding (Mr. Porkchop, ice cream, beer...etc) and put that into the back pocket of my jersey along with gummies (we like Cliff Bar Shot Blocks or fruit snacks) and Gu to go in my water. I fold up my outfit neatly, and put it into a gallon sized ziploc bag. This way I have 7 clean (and waterproof) outfits. I also have 2-3 sets of “camp clothes” that I also keep in ziploc bag. I keep all of my gear (clothes, tent, sleeping bag, pillow and thermarest) in a tool box like the one below.

Many people have asked me how much money they should take with them every day. I would suggest between $20 and $40 a day. How much you take every day is up to you!

What you should bring with you:

  • Cycling gear (helmet, clothing...etc.)

  • Your bike

  • Tent (I have a light weight 2 person tent that I use)

  • Sleeping pad

  • Pillow

  • Toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste...etc.)

  • Clothes to wear around camp

  • Charging cord for phone

  • Hat (if you want)

  • SUNSCREEN

  • Coozie

  • Baby or body wipes

  • Fan (if you want)

  • Flashlight

  • Rain gear (keep an eye on the weather for this one)

  • Shower towel

  • Snack food

  • Bug spray

  • Ear plugs

  • Dryer sheets (keeps the smell away)

  • Batteries (for the fans)
